Founded in 2001, Fujian Baofeng Electronics Co., Ltd. is a high-tech enterprise engaged in the research and development, production, and sales of handheld walkie-talkies and their accessories. We are one of the major manufacturers of wireless communication equipment in the world. BAOFENG insists on creating value for customers with continuous technological innovation and wins the trust and cooperation of global customers with its ever-increasing innovation capability, the spirit of quality improvement, and the delivery capability of solid industrial chains. "BAOFENG" is one of the professional and high-quality brands of walkie-talkies that are renowned at home and abroad.
We have never marketed or sold our walkie-talkies for use in war in any country. These principles have always guided our development and we re-emphasize them in light of recent developments.
We are also aware of various reports that our walkie-talkies have been widely used in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine as an essential communication tool in wartime. We need to point out that we cannot affect their circulation once our walkie-talkies are sold. Throughout the world, BAOFENG does not market or sell our walkie-talkies for use in warfare. We have never disseminated that our radios can be used as a means of communication in wartime, or pursued these commercial opportunities. We are clearly opposed to war and we love peace. We take regulatory compliance very seriously and emphasize to our distributors, resellers and other business partners that we may not sell BAOFENG radios to customers who explicitly plan to use them for war purposes.
It is important for BAOFENG that we convey the way we think the radio technology should not be used, because we have always been very clear about how it should be used. We are proud that our walkie-talkies are widely used in public safety, transportation, water conservancy, railway, manufacturing, construction, service, and other industries. They are used for communication, command, and dispatch among group members, improving communication efficiency and rapid response ability to deal with emergencies. People are also starting to use our walkie-talkies more and more when traveling and shopping. We use radio technology to help people in different areas to gain the ability to communicate more easily.
In the future, BAOFENG will further improve its comprehensive strength and competitiveness, explore and innovate, and provide more efficient, convenient, and perfect services to users worldwide. It will remain committed to leading the development of the industry and meeting the ever-changing challenges in the global communication field.
You guys make great products when looking at it from a cost-benefit analysis, and of course as a result there will be some proliferation of your company products in warzones.
Afghanistan was a great example of that. As a cryptolinguist, aka translator or interpreter, I would listen for ICOM (enemy chatter) and determine what I could analyze to the leadership of whatever task unit I was with. Those guys used low-cost, CB/HAM style radios, lucky for us, without any frequency-hopping ability to be programmed, making eavesdropping a breeze. Not to mention that Baofeng radios don’t have that function, I wouldn’t lose sleep as a Baofeng employee about where the products end up. WOKE culture makes everyone so damn sensitive. Realistically, terrorists, or freedom fighters, depending on what your perspective is, would frequently use the gear that was low cost, and met functional requirements – again, take it as a compliment that your radios are not necessarily “combat grade,” or milspec, but they are in a warzone in a bad time of year, and they are working.
PC statements aside, as a businessman, I would consider this to be a PR boon rather than a need to post a company statement with this tone. Spin this documentation of what Baofeng radios are being used, and consider this field testing – on someone else’s dime and time – from which to market to the armed services of US and US allied countries. PRC-152s and 148s were a pain in the … to program, update, set freqs for FH mode, and sometimes the knobs wouldn’t work well in the winter, and some antenna didn’t work as well as others. Let’s see if Baofeng products can take this Russo-Ukrainian war as a case study. Pragmatically speaking, of course.
I probably wouldn’t say this if I hadn’t come to your site today to learn more about the products, licensing, etc. and saw the company homepage covered with this posting. You guys have a huge opportunity here. If I was COO, I’d posture or orient my next business development plan by focusing on a Law Enforcement / Military division, and begin marketing with all the data you can collect from the current war in Ukraine, and other conflict areas/zones where your products are utilized by whomever.
You can’t control straw buyers exporting to Ukraine, but if you develop a Law Enforcement / Military division, you have now created a possible giant revenue stream / sales channel, and simply need to be registered with GSA. My 2 cents…
