[Ideal GMRS HT] The UV-5G, a GMRS version of the classic UV model, comes with an FCC ID: 2AN62-UV5G and requires a GMRS license. It’s pre-programmed with 30 GMRS and 11 NOAA channels, ready to use right out of the box.

[Longer Talking Range] Equipped with a 15.5" high gain antenna, it supports 8 repeater pairs from Channel 23-30, enabling a wider talking range. Its range increases significantly when used with a GMRS Repeater.

[Classic Design] Compatible with BL-5L 3800mAh extended rechargeable batteries and other classic series accessories, except the SMA-M antenna. It works well with your other GMRS units.

[NOAA Scan & Receiver] Stay ahead of severe weather with the NOAA feature that automatically scans and receives weather reports. It serves as an alternative and emergency communication option during disasters when cell towers are overloaded.

[Simple Operation] Features a tri-color display, easy-to-access basic settings via the Menu and Keypad, VOX hands-free operation, 128 Channels, 50 CTCSS tones, and 104 DCS. Comes with programming cable, and more advanced settings are available when connected to your computer. It supports CHIRP (choose “UV-5X (GMRS version) (use Radioddity UV-5G)”).

Why choose UV-5G (UV-5X)?
The Baofeng UV-5G is a LEGAL GMRS handheld radio. This radio extends all the functions from UV-5R but transmits only on the GMRS channels. It adds NOAA Weather Scanning and Receiving. The UV-5G offers GMRS performance as another addition to the familiar UV-5R series of radios. A true GMRS radio that will be a useful companion in your outdoor activities.

ATTENTION!
LICENSE NEEDED
As a GMRS radio, UV-5G requires a license from the FCC to operate. This license requires no testing, just fill in the application and pay the fee.

TIP! WHERE TO FIND REPEATER INFO
Repeater info can be found on the myGMRS.com (or its APP), it provides a decent list of repeaters.

"Why I received UV-5G instead of UV-5X as I ordered?"

Many customers used to be confused by UV-5X (GMRS version) and UV-5X (U/V version). So BAOFENG changes UV-5X to UV-5G and re-certified the FCC ID as 2AN62-UV5G. In essence, now UV-5X and UV-5G are both the latest upgraded version of the inventory, with the same hardware and software configuration.


Why choose GMRS over FRS?
GMRS repeater capable. The UV-5G can take advantage of GMRS repeaters to get a more powerful, further-ranging signal. -- This is not an option with FRS radios.
GMRS radios allow Wide-band FM to provide a louder and clearer signal than the FRS radios restricted to Narrowband FM with a lower power rating.
The UV-5G provides more selectable channels than FRS radios, more CTCSS and DCS tone options to reduce unwanted signals.
